Central Newfoundland Waste Management (CNWM) is pleased to announce Sort It - Central, a new curbside recycling and garbage collection program that will launch on Monday, March 2, 2015.

With a focus on increasing waste diversion and protecting the environment, Sort It - Central requires everyone to properly sort their waste into two streams, using clear bags for garbage and transparent blue bags for recyclables, including paper fibre and mixed containers.

As you are aware, residents and businesses in communities throughout Central Newfoundland have been participating in existing waste diversion programs for many years, and we know they are looking forward to the launch of Sort It – Central so they can do more to reduce the amount of waste destined for our landfill.

We also understand there will be a period of transition as the program launches, and we have developed a comprehensive public education plan to ensure that residents and businesses have the opportunity to learn how to properly sort their waste as well as the flexibility to implement appropriate waste diversion infrastructure, where required.

In addition to conducting stakeholder outreach, a local radio and print advertising campaign has been developed to help create awareness about the Sort It - Central program. Commencing February 16, 2015, residents and businesses in Central Newfoundland will receive an information package that includes a waste sorting guide as well as samples of clear and transparent blue bags. Complete program details are also available online at www.cnwmc.com.

We also encourage municipalities and Local Service District Committees to post the attached digital image of the Sort It – Central logo on your local website and link it to CNWM's website, at www.cnwmc.com, which features a number of easily accessible resources including:

1. Waste sorting guide
2. Frequently Asked Questions
3. Collection schedules
4. Tipping fees and CNWM card information

If you engage with your community through Facebook, we have attached recommended posts that you can use to communicate the launch of Sort It – Central.

We look forward to your continued support as we work to achieve sustainable waste management and protect our environment for future generations. Together we can make a bigger difference.

Sincerely,

Allan Scott
