As Mayor of the Town of Fogo Island it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you our new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
Mr. Allan Hewitt will start his official duties as CAO on Monday, October 5, 2020 once he completes his mandatory fourteen (14) days of self-isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic following his arrival from Ontario. He will be working with Council, management, and staff via telephone and Zoom following his arrival on September 21, 2020, during his period of self-isolation.
Allan assumes his new position with a significant combination of academic qualifications and work experience
Allan is a graduate of York University of Ontario and has several Diplomas and Certificates in Public Administration, Municipal Management, Finance, Law, Change Management, Emergency Management, and numerous other courses that makes him uniquely qualified for the position of CAO.
Allan brings a broad skill set to the position which is required to fulfill the varied duties and complex responsibilities associated with the position of CAO. In his most recent position as School Operations Manager for Fleming College, the School of Health and Wellness and Justice and Community Development, Allan looked after all operational aspects of the College including working with 28 programs on capital projects, equipment, buildings, laboratories, ambulances, required maintenance and their budgets. Fleming College is an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology located in Peterborough, Ontario. The college has an enrollment of more than 6,800 full-time and 10,000 part-time students. Allan also worked as Manager of Administration for the Health Department of the Regional Municipality of Durham during SARs and H1N1 and as Manager of Business Support and Administrative Services for the Environmental Service Department of the Regional Municipality of York, Ontario.
We are pleased to have someone of Allan's standing to lead the Town of Fogo Island. We know that you will give Allan a real Fogo Island welcome and make him a welcomed addition to the Fogo Island Administrative Team in the provision of superior municipal services to our residents and business owners and operators. In speaking with Allan, I know he is excited and looking forward to taking on his new role.
As a result of an Operational Assessment of the Town of Fogo Island conducted by LW Consulting we are pleased to make the following changes effective immediately:
1.Daphne Coles has been appointed to the position of Deputy Town Clerk and in her new position will continue to provide administrative support and services to the Mayor, Council, and the CAO and will be responsible for the Council minutes. She will assume responsibilities for records management, Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA) Coordinator, permits, elections, maintaining and updating the Public Works System on the Townsuite Computer System.
2.The positions of Director of Recreation and Leisure Services and Director of Tourism, Culture and Heritage have been combined into one (1) position called the Director of Recreation, Tourism and Economic Development and Colette Wells-Coish has been appointed the new Director.

On behalf of Council I would like to acknowledge, with appreciation, the contribution of Evan Parsons, the former Director of Tourism, Culture and Heritage to the Town of Fogo Island and wish him every success in his future endeavours.

We are confident that we have put together a great team and that they will accomplish great things for the municipality.
